To promote respect for wildlife and increase the public's awareness of the importance of preserving wildlife through the care of injured and orphaned California native wild animals and community education Thank you for your interest in the Stanislaus Wildlife Care Center The SWCC cares for injured and orphaned wild animals so they can be released back into their natural environments. We received almost 2,300 animals yearly representing over 250 different species last year. We require volunteers to be over 17, not pregnant, fit enough to clean cages, and have a current tetanus vaccination. Proof of Covid vaccinations are also required. Volunteers typically work a 4 to 6 hour shift at the same day and time each week. A one-year commitment is expected for most volunteers. Summer internships and baby bird feeding positions are also available. The baby bird season is 1 May through 30 August. Our in-house training program takes several days. We do not accept students who have only a few hours of volunteer work to do to meet a class requirement, or those needing volunteer hours to meet court ordered or other requirements. Exceptions may be made for veterinary students. Please note, conformation of hours worked or letters of recommendation will only be issued after one year of volunteer work unless agreed upon in advance. Volunteers work between 10:00 am and 3:30 pm 1 September through 30 April, From 1 May until 31 August, volunteer shifts can start as early as 7:00 am or end as late as 9:00 pm.
