Habitat challenges people of compassion to provide initial capital, through gifts and low-interest loans, to build or renovate simple, decent homes for the inadequately sheltered. We are confident that our approach is the most effective way to make a difference. Construction is a cooperative venture between volunteers and homebuyers. Habitat partner families contribute 500 hours of “sweat equity” towards the building of their home as well as the homes of others. Habitat houses are sold for no profit, with a non-interest mortgage, repaid over a 30 to 45 year period. House payments are recycled to build more homes for those in need.
