Due Date: 2026-12-21T21:00:00.000Z
Our organization is a non-profit, no-kill animal shelter committed to finding permanent, loving homes for all the animals that come into our care. Our staff of dedicated volunteers ensures the animals are kept as comfortable as possible until they can be placed into new adoptive homes. Thank you for your interest in volunteering with us at the Seal Beach Animal Care Center. We have many volunteer opportunities available, and we look forward to having you as part of our team! Some opportunities may not currently be available due to the pandemic; however, we will revise procedures as the situation evolves. Volunteer Opportunities: You must be 18 years old in order to spend time interacting with our dogs and cats. Dog orientations are still on hold, this page will be updated when the new process has been finalized. Cat orientations will be held on one Saturday morning per month from 11-12:30. Please email us at contact@sbacc.org to sign up for the next available cat orientation class. Please do not come for an orientation session unless you have been pre-registered. Dog Walking: Help make sure that our dogs get enough exercise, outside time and socialization! One of the many things that set us apart from other shelters is our commitment to making sure that the dogs have the best possible life while they are with us. Every dog gets at least two 30-minute walks a day to help keep them fit, friendly and engaged. Walking provides them with a much-needed break from being in their run, and spending time with you for some puppy love. Every day there are three regular dog-walking shifts: 7am-9am, 11am-1pm, and 4pm-6pm. Wind, rain or shine, each and every dog gets time out of their kennel thanks to our volunteers. Please check back for procedures for becoming a dog walking volunteer. Cat Volunteering: The first step for cat volunteers is getting to know the cats and kittens. The more socialization they receive, the more adoptable they become. We get so busy sometimes that the shy, timid cats are overlooked, so they really need your time. In addition to the need for socialization, we need help with all the daily chores such as scooping litter boxes, keeping our common rooms neat and clean and doing dishes and laundry. We need help during all the hours we are open to the public. You may email contact@sbacc.org to sign up for a cat volunteer orientation class. We are not able to accommodate group volunteers, or requests to volunteer for class credit or community service. Kitten Foster Program: Do you love kittens? We also need foster homes for the many kittens who are adopted through our Foster Care Program each year. Please read more about the foster program by clicking on Kitten Foster Program and if you thought you would like to foster, fill out the Feline Foster Care Application. Once we have your application, you will be contacted by our foster care coordinator. Fundraising & Special Events: Do you have event planning experience, or a passion for creative fundraising? We hold a variety of different fundraising events annually and are always looking for new volunteers who are excited to get involved. We need help planning, advertising, organizing and running things on the day of events. Additionally, if you have new ideas, we welcome the chance to discuss them with you. Are you a good baker? We often have events that include bake sales, and we always need extra hands and extra treats! Please email lauramax101@yahoo.com Community Outreach: Don’t have time to commit to helping on site at the shelter? No problem! SBACC needs friendly, outgoing, animal-loving people to represent the SBACC at events, fundraisers and spread the word about what we do. Community Outreach volunteers help raise awareness about SBACC, and the upcoming programs and events that we have. Maintenance/Laundry: Our dogs are very spoiled and have tons of blankets, beds and toys in their kennels. We need people to help with the washing, drying and folding of blankets etc. in order to maintain the health and comfort of our animals. This requires handling soiled items and following directions for the bleach and soap ratio posted in the laundry room. We always need help picking up poop in the runs, disinfecting kennels, doing dishes and general tasks that keep our office and buildings clean, safe and professional. You can contact us: our website is https://www.sbacc.org/, our email is contact@sbacc.org, phone is (562)-430-4993
