Tiny Pine Foundation
Tiny Homes for Fire Survivors is one of our main projects. We also provide support for those in need with drive through fire relief distributions and community giveaways.
How It All Started...
In December 2018, single mother Alyssa Hofman set out to build 10 tiny homes completely with donations and volunteers – and give them to those who had lost everything in California wildfires.
Alyssa knows what that’s like. In 2008, the new mother became homeless after a wildfire tore through the small town of Concow. Ten years later when the Camp Fire destroyed 11,000 homes in just one day, she knew she had to do something. Despite having no construction experience, Alyssa watched thousands of YouTube videos and educated herself about tiny homes. She built her first tiny home early 2019 and gifted it to a fire survivor – another young single mother. In the first year, 20 homes were funded through various sources including public and corporate donations, grants and fundraisers – and 13 homes were completed and gifted to Camp Fire survivors.
In recent wildfire seasons, Tiny Pine Foundation has stepped up to fill a need for disaster relief, helping survivors and evacuees with basic necessities, camping gear, gift cards, clothing, hotel stays, groceries, hot meals and more. These families also receive the comforting knowledge that people care, and that their challenges have not been forgotten.
Together We Do More
Volunteers are the reason we can help so many people! We welcome volunteers from all over the country, including youth and service groups, church organizations, retired (and active) contractors and more. Anyone with a heart to help can make a difference! Here are just some of our volunteer opportunities:
Help to build tiny homes! You do not need special skills or tools. We will find a task to fit you, from painting and caulking, to trim and flooring.
Assist in our discount warehouse with organizing and labelling. We also need reliable volunteers to work in our store in Oroville, CA.
Volunteer at our events including drive through distributions, dinner box giveaways & more. You won't believe how rewarding it is to give direct aid to those in need.
Solicit donations from your network! Monetary donations are most helpful, but we also occasionally run online auctions and fundraisers of gift baskets, vacation stays, golf packages, etc.
