It’s all for the love of pets! We offer care and protection to animals in need, and we believe all cats and dogs (and the people who love them) deserve access to high-quality veterinary care. As the largest animal shelter in the SF Bay Area and the first cageless animal shelter established in the U.S., we are transforming the way pet guardians and their beloved furry family members access lifesaving resources. Through our public hospitals, shelter hospital, and offsite community medicine clinics, we are reaching beyond ordinary care models to provide new, innovative pathways to service. As the largest animal welfare organization on the West Coast, the San Francisco SPCA relies on the assistance of caring, hardworking volunteers in all our programs. Every day at the SF SPCA more than 1,200 volunteers make an enormous difference in our lifesaving capacity and enhancing the human-animal bond within our community. Current Volunteer Opportunities Shelter Volunteer Socialize dogs and cats, to make their shelter stay less stressful and ready them for loving homes, and make sure our dogs get their daily walks. Advanced volunteer opportunities available including Adoption Matchmaking, Animal Photography, Dog Training Class Assistance and Food Preparation and Feeding. Animal Assisted Therapy Volunteer Take your trained and certified pet to visit hospitals, nursing homes, schools, and even SFO to bring the therapeutic value of animals to those in need. Learn more about our Animal Assisted Therapy program. Foster Volunteer Volunteer from your home, caring for young kittens or puppies until they are old enough to return to the shelter for adoption.
