Due Date: 2025-10-02T21:00:00.000Z
To increase wellness and build community through equitable access to healthy food, thriving gardens, and urban green space. City Slicker Farms began with a mission to co-power West Oakland community members to meet the basic need for fresh, healthy food by creating sustainable, high-yield urban farms and backyard gardens. Since its founding in 2001, City Slicker Farms has been at the forefront of the 21st-century sustainable urban farming and food justice movement, gaining national recognition as a leader in supporting low-income communities of color to grow food in the city. In the last 20 years, we have built over 400 backyard and community gardens, produced 300,000 pounds of nutrient rich food, and trained thousands of community members in organic gardening methods and environmental stewardship. Thank you for your interest in volunteering with City Slicker Farms! In order to make sure you have a great and safe volunteer experience, as well as to give you a better understanding of how our work supports food justice, we ask all volunteers to complete a Food Justice Orientation before volunteering with us. Orientation is held the First Saturday of the month from 10 am – 11 am. Participants are invited to stay and volunteer at the Farm Park from 11-1pm that day. Click the link below to sign up for orientation and volunteer shifts. We add new opportunities periodically based on season and special projects, so check back regularly!
