Volunteer or Docent for USS Potomac, FDR's historic presidential yacht
A number of volunteer opportunities, for all interests, are available: Docents present the history of the USS Potomac to the public when they visit the ship or when we go out on cruises in San Francisco Bay. The historical knowledge necessary can be easily and quickly learned through various materials provided and from shadowing other docents. Maintenance volunteers help maintain the ship, which may include mechanical operations, painting, repairing, restoring, preparation or maintenance of equipment. Office volunteers help answer phones, greet the public, or assist with administrative tasks in the Potomac Visitor Center at Jack London Square. Depending upon your interests and availabilities, you can assist with special events, special projects, or manage projects or programs. All volunteers earn guest passes for hours served which can be redeemed for public two-hour cruises and public three-hour cruises.
