Friends of The Alameda Animal Shelter
FAAS shelters and cares for abandoned companion animals, finds them new homes, and prevents animal cruelty through education and outreach. Through a unique public-private partnership, FAAS has managed the open-intake City of Alameda Animal Shelter since 2012. With innovative programs, community partnerships, and a passionate base of volunteers and donors, each year FAAS saves on average 97% of the nearly 1,000 lost, abandoned, and homeless animals who enter the city’s shelter. Readers of Alameda Magazine have recognized FAAS as the community’s Best Nonprofit Group for seven consecutive years
Volunteer
One of the most valuable gifts a nonprofit organization can receive is the gift of time. Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter relies on 150 active volunteers to help keep the shelter running smoothly. We would not be able to accomplish all that we do without the enormous contributions made by our volunteers.
Volunteers work in the kennel, walk dogs, care for cats and kittens and help in the office.
Like most nonprofits, we need volunteers during the week more than we do on weekends.
If you prefer not to work at the shelter, we also need volunteers who can help at off-site events or foster animals in their own homes.
